Inspection and Testing

ABS are qualified to undertake all aspects of electrical inspection and testing. As an independent electrical testing specialist, we pride ourselves on our professionalism and high quality of service.

All electrical installations deteriorate with age and use. Therefore they should be inspected and tested at regular intervals to ensure they are in a satisfactory condition for continued use. Such safety checks are commonly referred to as 'periodic inspection and testing'.

Our engineers will test the whole of the electrical system within your property, from the distribution board through to the outlets and light fittings. You will receive an Electrical Condition Report (EICR) along with the schedule of the tests we have carried out. If anything potentially dangerous is found, the overall condition of the electrical installation will be declared to be 'unsatisfactory', and remedial action will be required without delay to remove the risks to the premises and occupants.

A periodic inspection will reveal:

• If any of your electrical circuits or equipment are overloaded.
• Any potential electric shock risks and fire hazards.
• Defective electrical work.
• Lack of earthing or bonding.

Tests are also carried out on wiring and fixed electrical equipment to check that they are safe. A schedule of circuits is also provided, which is invaluable for a property.

How often is a periodic inspection of electrics required?

• Every 10 years for an owner-occupied home
• Every 5 years for a rented home
• Every 3 years for a caravan
• Every year for a swimming pool

Electrical Condition Report (EICR) for mortgages and insurance

The certificates we issue are accepted by mortgage and insurance companies. Periodic inspections are required when a property is being prepared for let or when being sold.

PAT Testing

We can also carry out portable appliance testing (PAT) on all of your appliances in domestic and commercial properties. All landlord and commercial buildings need to have appliances tested for safety.

All testing is carried out in compliance with health and safety laws.
