New boiler installation
A boiler is something your family use a lot, every day, so you need it to be reliable. It is also quite a big and potentially costly undertaking. This is why it’s important to make sure that you have a quality job done.
Choosing the right boiler for you
Choosing the right boiler for your home or business can be quite tricky because there are many things to take into consideration including whether you have a gas connection, your hot water requirements, how much space you have and energy efficiency.
Changing your old boiler for the same type generally makes installation easier. But the benefits of switching to a new, energy efficient boiler are likely to outweigh any disruption in the long run. To minimise disruption you might have your new boiler fitted in the same place as the old one, most people have them fitted in kitchens or cupboards, but you can place it almost anywhere, as long as the correct pipework is in place and you can position the flue correctly.
Some people already know the type of boiler they want, and they might also have a particular brand in mind too. But if you aren't sure, and you live in North London, Essex, Suffolk or Norfolk, we can advise you on some options, or you can take a look at Which? for some completely independent advice.
A brief guide to types of boiler
Combination boilers - more commonly known as combi boilers - are the most popular kind in the UK. Combi Boilers provide heat and hot water with no need for water tanks or cylinders, so are great if space is an issue. You can pick either a gas or electric combi boiler.
Conventional boilers - also known as open vent or regular boilers - have both a cylinder and a tank (usually in your loft).
System boilers - also known as sealed system boilers - come with a water cylinder (which usually sits in an airing cupboard) and no water tank.
Condensing boilers - Condensing boilers aren't really a boiler type. It's an attribute your boiler can have, for example, you can have a condensing combi boiler or a condensing conventional boiler. All modern boilers are condensing boilers.
When to have your new boiler installed
If you are upgrading your boiler rather than replacing a broken down one, you will have a bit more choice about when you might have the work carried out. Warmer weather is when you will be least reliant on heating and hot water.
